Fr Alexander Clinton SJ (vere/alias Mackenzie) was born 23 March 1730. He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus 25 October 1749, and was professed of the four vows 2 February 1767. He had defended all the theses in theology. In 1756 he was sent to the London mission, which he served for many years, and was distinguished for his attention to the poor and especially the prisoners. In the Province Catalogue of 1773 he was named as the Newgate missioner. In 1781 he became chaplain at Lulworth Castle, and c.1795 retired to Ireland, and died in Dublin, on 5 June 1800.
