Fr John William Connolly SJ was born 1779, in Ireland. He entered the restored English Province of the Society of Jesus on 7 September 1805 or 31 August 1807, at Hodder, and succeeded Fr Charles Leslie SJ in the Oxford mission in the autumn of 1812. He died there from a ruptured blood-vessel, on 5 September 1818. He was buried in the old chapel, St Clement’s, Oxford, where he small tablet was erected to his memory.
