Fr James Dupeyron SJ, Vicar Apostolic of Jamaica, was born 30 December 1804, in St Etienne, France. He entered the [French] Province of the Society of Jesus 9 November 1833, and was professed of the four vows on 16 January 1847 or 15 August 1849. Assigned to the English Province, he was one of the earliest missioners sent to the new mission of Jamaica. He arrived there in 1843, and was constituted Vicar-Apostolic by the Holy See in 1855. He died at Springfield (Alabama), USA, on 28 July 1872.
