Fr Andrew Barrow SJ was born on 27 January 1804, in Manchester, England. He made his humanities at Stonyhurst College. He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus at St Andrew’s Novitiate, Rome on 2 November 1821. He was professed of the four vows 15 August 1839, and made his higher studies in Rome and Ferrara. In 1831 he was appointed Prefect of Studies at Stonyhurst, where he made his theology, and was ordained Priest by Bishop Penswick, December 20, 1834. After filling the office of Prefect of Studies a second time, he became missioner at Preston until 14 July, 1842, when he was declared Rector of Stonyhurst College. On 17 July 1845 he was appointed chaplain and missioner at Broughton Hall, Yorkshire, and was declared Rector of the Residence of St Michael (the Yorkshire District) April 14, 1860. On several occasions he was appointed Vice-Provincial in the absence of the Provincial. He died at Broughton Hall, 20 October 1865.
