Fr John Brice Bridge SJ was born 2 November 1793, in Liverpool, England. He made his studies at Stonyhurst College, and entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus at Hodder (Lancashire), on 7 September 1814. He was made Spiritual Coadjutor on 15 August 1834, and was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in July 1819, in Dublin. After serving the missions of Norwich and Newhall, Chelmsford, he was appointed Spiritual Father and Superior of the Seminary, Stonyhurst, in June 1838, and Minister of Stonyhurst College on November 1841. He was stationed at Allerton Park (Yorkshire), as missioner 18 July 1842, and died there 20 February 1860. He was the compiler of the Ordo S.J. from 1844 until his death, and was for many years Superior of the Residence of St Michael (Yorkshire), arriving there in the autumn of 1822.
