Ordained as a Roman Catholic priest c 1750. Final vows in the Society of Jesus 2 February 1755. Died 16 October 1783 Liège.

Studied at St Omer's College 1737: Entered the Society at Watten under his mother's name (Howard) 1755: Professed 1764: Chosen as Director to the convent of the Holy Sepulchre, Liège 1768: Declared Rector of the College of Liège and witnessed its suppression in 1773 being then also Vice-Provincial. Became first President of the newly established Liège Academy. 1783: Died in office and buried chapel of the convent of the Holy Sepulchre, Liège

Br Henry Foley SJ, Volume 7 Part 1, Records of the English Province of the Society of Jesus, London: Burns and Oates, 1883, p368: …In March, 1764, he was chosen Director to the Convent of the Holy Sepulchre, Liege (now of Newhall, Chelmsford). The holy Mother Prioress, Christian Dennett (who died in the repute of sanctity), declared during her last illness that, after God, she owed all to Father John. He was a man of great prayer, and was the person whom Divine Providence had destined to assist her in all her undertakings, especially in raising His Holy Sepulchre religious discipline and the spirit of prayer according to the perfection of its holy Institute.
