Nicholson and his two brothers were educated at Mount St Mary’s followed by Stonyhurst. He left Stonyhurst in 1872 and entered the Society on 7 September at Roehampton. His regency was spent at Beaumont and Mount St Mary’s and he was ordained at St Beuno’s on 19 September 1886. He then taught at the Mount for a year. In 1889 he went as Minister to St Wilfried’s, Preston and remained there for four years.

In 1893 Nicholson went to St Aloysius’ Oxford, and while there was instrumental, together with Fr Clarke, in setting up a University Hall. After he left Oxford he was Spiritual Father at Stonyhurst for a year and from 1899-1903 was based at the Liverpool Mission. In 1903 he moved to Farm Street Church where he was on the staff for the next 11 years, the final six as Superior. In 1914 he became Rector of Stamford Hill College and Parish, where he stayed until 1921 when he took charge of Bournemouth Parish, where he extended the parish and converted a building into a new church. His final move was to Wimbledon as Spiritual Father, but growing deafness meant he could not do very much work. In 1929 he contracted pneumonia. In May 1934 he was moved to the Hospital of St Anthony which was managed by the Daughters of the Cross at Cheam, and he died there on 12 May 1934. Nicholson’s Requiem Mass took place at the Sacred Heart Church, Wimbledon and he was buried at the local cemetery.</Nationality>
