Ordained as a Roman Catholic priest 10 December 1808. Final vows in the Society of Jesus 2 February 1819. Died 8 June 1853 Worcester.

Bird was born in Betchworth, Surrey, in 1783. He was educated at Stonyhurst and joined the novitiate at Hodder Place immediately after the restoration of the Society. At the end of 1813 he became missioner at St Wilfred's, Preston. In 1832 he was appointed Rector of St Aloysius' College and was the principle founder of the Church and the mission of St Ignatius, Preston, of which he laid the first stone 27 May 1833. In 1829 he attended the General Congregation in Rome, where Fr Roothaan was elected General. On June 25 1838 he was declared Provincial. He was again appointed Rector of St Aloysius' College in 1841, residing at St Wilfrid's. From 1842-1848 he was missioner at Pontefract, then for a short time at Portico with Prescot, and in September 1849 became Superior of St Ignatius' Preston, which he left in 1850 for Worcester, having been appointed Superior of St George's Residence. He died there in 1853.
